Thursday (5/2). Leave from home.
Saturday (5/4). Morning departure from our hotel in Palermo in our air-conditioned minibus. Proceed to Monreale to view the Norman cathedral with its glittering 12th-century mosaics. Continue to the charming cliff-side town of Cefalù. Two nights at Cefalù.
Sunday (5/5). Explore Cefalù. See the Duomo and the small Museo Mandralisca, where highlights include a portrait by Sicily’s greatest Renaissance painter, Antonello da Massina. If you wish, climb La Rocca for an unforgettable view of the coastline.
Monday (5/6). Travel to scenic Taormina with its spectacular views of Etna. Visit the ancient Greco-Roman theater. Enjoy lunch. Continue to Catania. Two nights in Catania.
Tuesday (5/7). Enjoy a morning walk through the market. Board our minibus for an excursion to Mt. Etna. Take a cable car for a better look at the many craters & distinctive flora.
Wednesday (5/8). Travel to Piazza Armerina and marvel at 4th-century Roman mosaics with scenes of gladiators, beast hunts, and bikini-clad dancing girls. Continue to Enna, the highest city in Europe. One night in Enna.
Thursday (5/9). Board our minibus to Agrigento. Visit majestic Doric temples, among the finest examples in the Mediterranean world. Continue to Erice. Three nights in Erice.
Friday (5/10). Free day to revel in the unforgettable views & sample the culinary delights & scrumptious pastries for which Erice, a picturesque stone-paved hill town, is justifiably famous.
Saturday (5/11). Visit to lo Zingaro, a national preserve, to take a short hike on a nature trail along the coastline, or stay in Erice and take the funicular to the city of Trapani below.
Sunday (5/12). Board our minibus to Segesta with its scenic Greek temple and theater. Continue on to Palermo. Three nights in Palermo.
Monday (5/13). Visit the Norman masterpieces of Palermo and enjoy the Baroque splendors of Serpotta’s oratories.
Tuesday (5/14). Visit the private home of a collector of majolica tiles. Tour the magnificent Palermo opera house. Take the afternoon off for last-minute shopping.
Wednesday (5/15). Early morning departure from Palermo’s Punta Raisi airport.
The price of the trip includes: lodging for 12 nights (double occupancy), breakfast, some dinners, ground transportation, all entry fees, guided tours and talks, taxes and gratuities. It does not include airfare.
